The terra-clad panels rainscreen direct water along the surface while venting and panel shape prevents pressure and wind respectively from driving water into the wall system. Venting also keeps the wall cavity dry. The mounting rail and gaskets channel water out at the joints.

Detail for the panel looks good. I like the idea of the rainscreen as it eliminates the need to make the exterior surface waterpoof. Go for it.
Felix, Tom, theoretically you could rely on a pressure equalized rainscreen to keep water out. But my money is with a air and moisture barrier on top of the exterior sheathing as the second line of defense and insulation on top of the air barrier, just as Felix is showing in his detail. I would like you to complete the detail inside, stud size and GWB (?).
Also, as you are showing a termination on top of your terra cotta rainscreen, I would like to see the roof with structure, deck, insulation, etc. and the way it connects to the exterior.
Felix et all, the back-up of your rainscreen could be base for many different rainscreens: wood, metal (panels or sheet metal), trespa, swiss pearl, hardy boards, or even brick. Brick of course would need brick releaving angles and brick ties, not girts on z-channels.
