Week 2 Sketch Problem

I found this interesting article regarding MIT, SIMMONS HALL Dormitory design by Steven Holl, from different perspective point of view

Felix, please start with thinking about the detailed activities and uses in the spaces, than assign sizes and adjacencies. I do like the use of color to make the program visible, just the sequence is a bit off.

Felix,
It looks like you plan to allow some spaces to fulfill dual purposes. Your square footage may be lower than some others. Where would you see support spaces? Where would the entry fit in? What areas would be important to you to have daylight.

Felix, your program still needs a lot of work. But I enjoyed reading the simmons hall article. Both the preconception but also the “ruthless gang of facts” (code officials with their strange interpretations and safety officers reacting to random incidents, et cetera) can ruin a perfectly good use of a site…

nice article. something that i have always wondered, after hearing the likes of steven holl and others speak, is the clients perspective. i guess it is a delicate balance between achieving a delicate balance between design intent and respecting the clients wishes, but after hearing most big namers speak, they mostly have this sense of ego about them....
